The Election inspires All Saints Petersham

The scale of the decoration at All Saints Petersham is impressive and shows that if they struck a theme which would genuinely appeal broadly to gen y or mosiacs then they'd make a real splash! The trouble is the Jesus is either Liar, Lunatic or Lord is way to intellectual a faith argument... I suppose they'd argue if you join the All Saints family you'll experience faith in action through acceptance, inclusion and enthusiasm for the Lordship of Jesus BUT in a drive by impact MOST punters will see it as an exercise they're just not that interested to engage in... or is that just me?

The display is completed by a set of white vinyl polling booths on the side lawn as well!

Clever, ernest, creative and appropriately large... just maybe missing the mark with the audience!!

Jesus Loves Osama

Biblically correct PERHAPS!!
Sensible, credible, accurate, helpful, funny and noticeable.... YES noticeable!!

The braniacs at Outreach Media have scored some publicity for their client churches with this poster... their Telstra one wasn't bad but most of the rest state the bleeding obvious!!

"Thank God You're Here"

Things have been quiet on the clever church noticeboard front until this one appeared in the Sydney Morning Herald on Wednesday 31st January.... and due to another story will receive even more publicity for the rest of this week!!

"Thank God You're Here" is the Working Dog produced improv drama show that's been such a hit for Aussie Network Ten in 2006!! The show involves competitors/actors/celebrities/comics walking through a door where a skit unfolds from the first line "thank God you're here".

Participants are marked on humour, cleverness and how they handle the curve balls they receive... very funny show and I've blogged elsewhere about its use as a youth group activity!!

St Barnabas Anglican. The Broadway

As mentioned at the ouset of this blog....
St Barnabas is the Column 8 Sydney Morning Herald regular from its days of Robert Forsythe and Arthur from the Broadway Hotel having fun across the road trading signs. The book used to be onsale at the pub before it closed.
IT all started with "Hear John Smith [of God Squad fame] here 7.30pm Sunday." It just so happened the pub had a talkative old bloke as a regular so the chalk board said "Hear Jack Smith here every night"...
"The wages of sin is death".... "apply within" and so on...
"Jesus bowls over death"... "Dennis Lillee bowls over batsmen"

Well, St Barnabas was recently gutted by fire and the succession of noticeboards since have been a cut above thats for sure!!

This one is a later one in the sequence!!

What the...?

An 'e' and 'e' my kingdom for an 'e'

Saved? What from...

Duncan McLeod sent me this one from above a hairdressers in Burleigh QLD...
As he observed on his own blog... saved from what? I guess we do need the free Bible to find out...
I have just been sent a whole swag of examples that will roll out in coming weeks. Soem are hard to believe and could be folklore turned sign by someone using sign generator BUT they can usually quote where they've seen it and they are just corny or misinformed enough to be true!!
Stay tuned after a brief holiday for two weeks!!

Merewether Uniting Church

Do people do any thinking about how they and others understand God before they launch onto a noticeboard with this kind of rubbish?
It's nearly as bad as "We're serious about sin and the devil" or "Flood, Hurricane, Tsunami_ Can you hear me yet?"

The flipside of the noticeboard says "Psalms read here"... oh well!

Check the SMH weekend feature a few weeks back by Jonathon Biggins as he visited four churches and gave the Unting Church a decent write up almost despite his experience of traditional worship at the Glebe Rd church.

And well done Maroubra Junction Uniting Church
A mock up of the sign that started it all... St Johns Anglican Darby St, Cooks Hill in Newcastle.
The Rev is doing good things there with young adults and several families of weddings thru good word of mouth about the music, style etc... This is the sign that disproves my premise, but how amny more will we find. I still reckon we're way behind!! Most offerings confirm our relegation to the sidelines!!

Thanks to all those who are sending entries. I had this picture in poor resolution. Its funnier this way!!
